I remember thinking this song was hot the first time I heard it. Personally, I think it's good to have the ability to adapt to your situation at a moment' s notice. My theory is that less Memphis Bleek equals better album. This album has a much more soulful bent than all of his previous work. One of the better beats for a Timbo/Jay collabo, with some of the worst Jay lyrics. The only thing that could be better is a remix with M.O.P. Somehow this song got some play on local radio. Corny concept, but the execution is nice. Don't be fooled by the features they all sing one hook each. GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS (FEAT Q-TIP, SLICK RICK, & BIZ MARKIE) This was the huge hit single, for good reason.Ĥ.
Kanye West samples the Jackson 5 while Jay-Z talks about himself. Most people have already heard this one, but if you haven't, you should. Kanye West samples The Doors while Jay-Z takes pot shots at Mobb Deep and Nas. On an intro, of all things! The gall of this man! Had it been any other rap release, the street date would have been pushed back and I would have been forced to listen to the Clear Channel feed that every radio station adopted that terrible day. (Not so much the Killarmy album.) I can't imagine how I would have acted had I not had a new CD to fully concentrate on.įor that reason, you could say that I'm grateful that this CD dropped that day. This is how I got through the shock and horror of the Towers falling. I hid in my office, avoiding phone calls and the constant news reports by blasting The Blueprint instead. It wasn't like I was getting any work done that day anyway.
In retrospect, the only real reason I left to buy this album was to commit to a sense of normalcy. I spent the morning with my coworkers watching television, listening to the radio on the intercom, and frantically trying to get online to find out as much information as we could about these planes that just hit the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, and what the hell is going on? I remember leaving work for lunch, with the plan being to grab some grub and skate over to Best Buy to grab the new Jay-Z album and the new Killarmy (remember, I'm a huge Wu fan). People often use music when they recall flashes from their lives, and this album is no exception for me.
